Runge was founded by brothers Rudolf and Alfred in the early years of the 20th century. Alfred, an architect by training, was initially responsible for the first garden benches, constructed purely in wood and with the prevailing Art Nouveau aesthetics of the era. In the decades before World War II Runge's outdoor range of tables, chairs, pergolas and planters were regularly exhibited at shows, where they won numerous awards. In their own words, '...we have been developing new shapes for well over 110 years, always with the aim of creating a design that is as timelessly beautiful as possible...'. Ergonomics and geometry are also important, as, '...even before a person learns to walk, they can already sit'.

This high quality production piece in wool has been created using the finest dyes. Its soft red ground is decorated with large and small palmettes with small cloud band motif. The impressive green blue border also features large and small palmettes. The carpet has a very good colour balance, measures 17 x 8 feet and dates from the late 20th century.
